Drug de-addiction center curbs drug menace in Kashmir

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Mar.17 (ANI): The new generation of youth in Kashmir is falling for drugs like Charas, brown sugar, cocaine, cannabis and psychotropic drugs.

One of the main reasons for this is depression which the youth face when they are not getting jobs or are exposed to other family problems.

Figures released by Jammu and Kashmir Police say that out of 16,000 cases of drug patients getting treatment, there are 1800 youths admitted and they have been admitted in Jammu and Kashmir Police's Drug de-addiction Centre here.

Kashmir is heading towards the situation where drugs have become the back bone of their economy, like some of the countries across the globe are having. There are a large number of families whose sources of income is drug trafficking.

The police drug de-addiction center in Srinagar is helping to curb this menace by providing treatment to scores of drug addicts. In this center, there is about 30 qualified staff comprising psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, medical officers, counsellors.
