AAP's Punjab convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur said although prima-facie evidence suggested that a short-circuit was the reason of the fire, but keeping in mind several incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in the recent months, which ignited state-level agitations by various Sikh organisations, it needed a high-level probe to ascertain whether there was any mischievousness behind this fire.
Although Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal had pledged to nab those who were behind the incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, he failed to arrest even a single accused, said Chhotepur, adding that everybody who believes in the Sikhism is hurt due to the Akalis' failure on this front.
Chhotepur said in spite of repeated incidents of sacrilege, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which claimed to be a 'Panthic' party, failed to provide ample security to gurdwaras, which resulted in anguish among Sikhs, who were forced to launch agitation and led to barbaric killing of two Sikh youths in police firing at Bargadi.
"If Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is not capable of stopping sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, he has no moral right to continue on his post and should immediately tender his resignation," Chhotepur demanded.
