"Film industry earnings may reach $ 3.7bn by '20"

Hyderabad: The gross box office realisations of Indian film industry are expected to reach USD 3.7 billion by 2020, according to Deloitte Indywood Indian Film Industry Report.

As per December 2015 the gross box office realisation was USD 2.1 billion.

"The Indian film industry is the largest in the world in terms of number of films produced with around 1,500 to 2,000 films produced every year in more than 20 languages.

In terms of revenue, the industry has gross box office realisations of USD 2.1 billion which is expected to grow at 11 per cent CAGR reaching USD 3.7 billion by 2020," the report said.

People calling India land of rapes embarrassing: Bachchan

New Delhi: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he feels embarrassed when he goes abroad and people there call India, the land of rapes.

The actor, who is essaying the role of a lawyer in his latest release "Pink," said Indians should work together to make the country a first world nation.

"It's very embarrassing when we visit abroad and people there say, 'You are from India, the land of rapes'. I want that to go. I don't like it when people call us a third world country or developing country.

Director opens up about leaked sex scenes in 'Parched'

Director Leena Yadav has opened about leaked intimate scenes between Radhika Apte and Adil Hussain in her forthcoming movie "Parched".

"People have a tendency to sensationalise things... I think it should be stopped now. By exaggerating it, we are giving much importance to these things. I didn't say anything so far as it would be against the film that I've made," said Yadav at the trailer launch of the film.

Actress Parineeti Chopra says social media trolls and negative criticism don't bother her at all.

Parineeti became a victim of social media trolls when the "Ishaqzaade" star shared a video wishing her friend a very happy birthday, along with actress Alia Bhatt. In the video, the actress was heard saying "eat less...become thin". People started trolling the actress for being fake and for fat-shaming her friend.

Bollywood stars gear up for Ganpati festival

Mumbai, Sep 4:With the 10-day Ganpati festival commencing from tomorrow, several actors including Emraan Hashmi and Arjun Rampal are preparing to welcome home the God of good luck, while stars like Katrina Kaif and Daisy Shah will visit friends' places to offer prayers.

When asked how he is going to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi tomorrow, Emraan said, "We have friends and family coming over. My wife, she is a Hindu, so there is always a ritual in her house, we go and visit Ganeshji. It is all very special to us."

A media scholarship in the name of megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been instituted by filmmaker Anand Pandit of Anand Pandit Motion Pictures.

The Amitabh BachchanMedia Scholarship will annually awarded to students of cinema and media after an exhaustive selection process.


"I hope this scholarship will push students of cinema to strive for excellence. It is a wonderful gesture by Anand to harness and nurture new talent. He is a dear friend and I am humbled by his gesture in instituting this initiative. I hope this scholarship helps talented individuals pursue their love for cinema," said Amitabh.

'Don't Breathe' director wonders why Bollywood has love, but no kisses

"For god's sake, kiss". That's how director Fede Alvarez, whose new film "Don't Breathe" is releasing in Indiaon Friday, reacted when he chanced upon a Bollywoodfilm.

Alvarez, who had helmed the "Evil Dead" reboot which hit the screens in 2013, said he still loves Bollywoodfor its "maturity".


Talking about his perception of Indian cinema, Alvarez told IANS in an email interview: "Yes, I love it. I wish I could remember the title (of a Hindi movie I've seen)! But it's difficult to remember their titles.

Shatrughan Sinha lauds Sonakshi's devotion to work

Actor Shatrughan Sinha is proud of his daughter and actress Sonakshi Sinha for the devotion she shows towards her work.

Shatrughan also heaped praise on the hard work she has put in for her action avtaar in the forthcoming film "Akira". He said even he "wasn't like her" when he used to do action films.


"Sonakshi has done the film ('Akira') with so much of devotion and concentration even I wasn't like her when I used to do action films. She is a hard worker," Shatrughan said here.

I went through ragging in college: Sonakshi Sinha

Actress Sonakshi Sinha, whose next film "Akira" also touches upon the subject of ragging, says she had faced ragging herself during her college days.

"Ragging is touched upon greatly in the film ('Akira'). I feel that I did go through it in SNDT (Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University), which is an all-girls' college but it was a way of making friends with each other," Sonakshi said here.


Deepika on Forbes' list of world's highest paid actresses

New York, Aug 24 :Leading Indian actress Deepika Padukone has made her debut among the world's top 10 highest paid actresses with earnings of USD 10 million dollars in a list alongside Hollywood heavyweights Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts and "Friends" star Jennifer Anniston.

Padukone, 30, is the only Indian actress and the sole newcomer in Forbes' 2016 list of the 'World's Highest-Paid Actresses', coming in on the 10th spot.

Forbes said Padukone has "scored box office gold" in Bollywood movies such as "Bajirao Mastani" and "Piku".

While she earns less than her Hollywood counterparts for roles, Padukone "compensates with over a dozen lucrative endorsements", which "have helped her hedge against a deep pay gap in Bollywood".

The list shows her with earnings of USD 10 million.

Priyanka Chopra scores over 10 mn followers on Instagram

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who has garnered international popularity with American TV show "Quantico", has scored 10 million followers on Instagram.

Priyanka, who is currently shooting for the second season of "Quantico", shared her excitement on Instagram and Twitter. She shared a mini clip of herself in which she is seen sporting sunglasses with digits 1 and 0 on each of its lens.

Deepika Padukone named brand ambassador of Vistara

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been roped in as the new brand ambassador of domestic airline company Vistara.


A new multimedia brand campaign of Vistara along with its first TV commercial (TVC) will be launched on Monday.

The campaign reinterprets and delivers on the brand promise of "Fly the new feeling", through the eyes of Deepika.

The concept of the TVC revolves around how Deepika Padukone feels the same wonder and joy every time she flies Vistara, as she felt when flying for the first time.

The campaign intends to elaborate on the core interpretation of the brand promise which is about the feeling of looking forward to flying again.

'Mohenjo Daro' collects over Rs 30 crore in opening weekend

Hrithik Roshan-starrer "Mohenjo Daro" minted Rs 30.54 crore on its opening weekend in India, its makers said.

The film had taken in Rs 8.87 crore on Friday in India.


The epic adventure-romance collected Rs 9.6 crore on Saturday (day two) and Rs 12.07 crore on Sunday (day three) taking the cumulative total to Rs 30.54 crore NBOC (Net Box Office Collection), a statement from the film's makers said.

Adnan Sami happy to celebrate birthday as Indian

Singer Adnan Sami, formerly a Pakistani, says he is elated to celebrate his birthday — which falls on August 15, India's Independence Day — as an Indian citizen for the first time.

Sami, was born in Britain and held Canadian citizenship too, received his certificate of Indian citizenship earlier this year.

Shah Rukh Khan detained at Los Angeles airport

Los Angeles, Aug 12 Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was detained at the Los Angeles airport for questioning by the US immigration department.

"I fully understand & respect security with the way the world is, but to be detained at US immigration every damn time really really sucks," Khan tweeted.

Khan, 50, in another tweet said, "The brighter side is while waiting caught some really nice Pokemons."
